Croak (cantrip).jpg
Croak
Range 60 ft.
Duration 1 round
Area of Effect 60 ft., up to 1 creature
Casting Time 2 action points
Saving Throw negates
Level cantrip

Produces a long-lasting croaking sound, producing either singular croaks in succession or a collection of at least a dozen frogs. The full effect will endure for 10 seconds. This will be followed by random effects of 5-8 croaks over the following 12 seconds, then silence. The sound can be heard up to 120 ft. away. A single frog might be mistaken for a giant frog, if the listener fails an intelligence check.

The cantrip can be cast in the daytime, but is almost instantly recognized as fakery, since frogs croak only at night. The cantrip is especially effective at dusk or dawn, when the occurrence of the sound is entirely natural.

If heard by creatures with an intelligence between 5 and 14, the response will be to cease what they are doing and listen. If an attack is made within one round of the cantrip's discharge, then the chance of surprising ordinary listeners increases — from a usual 2 in 6 chance to 3 in 6. Characters and creatures who are normally only surprised on a 1 in 6 or less, such as rangers or lions, will not be distracted by this deception.

The cantrip also has the power to force a frog or frog-like creature to croak against its will. This will spoil its attack for 1 round if a saving throw is failed.
