Animal Training is a sage field available to fighters, paladins and rangers — and in part to assassins — which involves the teaching of specific responses to animals through conditioning and stimuli. Animals are trained through the field for the purpose of companionship, work, protection, entertainment and more. The field also includes breeding and veterinary skills.

The field includes the following sage studies:

  • Horseback Riding: like other mounts on this list, describes the use of the horse for transportation, combat and work.
  • Mahout: allows action as a rider, trainer and keeper of elephants and oliphants.
  • Underwater Mounts: allows knowledge of hippocampi, sea horses and sea turtles, providing superlative action in both waterborne and underwater environments.

"Mahout" and "Underwater Mounts" are studies not normally available to assassins.

In most cases, the most important aspect of these studies is the use of animals as riding mounts or as creatures trained to attack and otherwise function in case of combat and war.

Druids are not included among the classes that train animals as the class usually circumvents such methods through other means.
