Also known as a "puma" or "mountain lion," the cougar is a large feline in the New World. Secretive and largely solitary by nature, the cougar is nocturnal. It is an ambush predator that prefers to stalk large, hoofed mammals, particular deer. Cougars prefer habitats with dense underbrush and rocky areas for stalking; it is territorial.
