Know Fungi (sage ability).jpg

Know fungi is an amateur-status sage ability in the study of Fungi, giving an acute familiarity with fungi and their various classifications and characteristics. With a glance, characters can discern the genera and species of commonplace fungi, differentiating both edible and toxic varieties.

Contents

Thus the character can identify those which would be a valuable resource as food or in the making of various poisons. This includes mushrooms that could be eaten by dwarves, gnomes, halflings and half-orcs but not human beings.

This knowledge extends to the identification of moulds and fungal-based monsters, such as brown and yellow varieties, violet fungi and gas spores. This doesn't cover the identification of slimes, oozes, or puddings, for which one should refer to the |slime moulds sage study, nor does it provide any knowledge about the weaknesses or combat methods of these creatures.

Rare Species

The ability provides aid for characters embarking on botanical expeditions, traveling to remote and diverse regions in search of elusive and rare fungal species. These expeditions could take a party through lush forests, deep caves or even to volcanic landscapes where unique fungi thrive.

Such examples, if found, might intrigue other enthusiasts, alchemists or scholars, leading to trade or an expanded understanding of the natural world.
