Acrobatics (sage study).jpg

Acrobatics is a sage study in the field of Circus that mixes various physical performances with feats of extraordinary balance, agility and coordination. The study incorporates numerous amusements and stunts which can be performed for an audience, as well as tricks that can serve the character well in other ventures. The study includes jugglers, tumblers, aerialists and other circus performers — persons fascinating to watch but not of particularly high social standing.

These forms have existed for millennia, incorporating specialised techniques for the body that have remained guild-secrets since before Roman times. In game terms, the acrobat can "do more with less," circumventing what would require other characters to make dexterity or strength checks. This is accomplished by strengthening unusual muscles and increasing the strain-potential of tendons and muscles, while exhibiting perfect balance when needed.

The sage abilities below are those acquired by a character through the study, according to status.

Amateur Status

  • Climb Walls: enables the character to climb verticle surfaces easily with their fingertips.
  • Flexibility: provides multiple benefits from the character's overall balance in fighting.
  • Give Exhibition: allows a dramatic, exciting presentation for the purpose of entertainment.
  • Tumbling: protects the character's body while allowing unusual movement tactics

Authority Status

  • Equilibrialism: gives extraordinary powers to balance the character's body.
  • Corde Lisse: uses a cord or linen ribbon to descend rapidly or perform complex stunts.
  • Leap & Grab: allows the character to leap from a structure and grab hold of a stable or moving object safely.
  • Walk Tightrope: allows travel upon a strained rope suspended between two structures.

Expert Status

  • Equipoise: so long as the character remains rooted in one spot, he or she is able to balance twice as much as they can carry for up to one round per level.
  • Pause Fall: the character is able to pause the moment of falling for a full round before it happens.
  • Slip Trap: forgoes much of the damage from traps by lithely twisting the character's body to escape harm.
