Imbue with spell ability is a spell that bestows upon a recipient the capability to cast a single spell from the caster's repertoire, regardless of the recipient's actual character class. The spell's parameters, including range, area and effect are equal to HALF the recipient's level, not the caster's — with the recipient treated as a "caster" for this calculation.

Imbue with Spell Ability
Range touch
Duration special
Area of Effect 1 creature
Casting Time 2 rounds
Saving Throw none
Level cleric (4th)

For example, a 7th level fighter is imbued with the ability to cast spiritual hammer, which lasts one round per level. The fighter's level, halved, would count as 3rd; therefore the hammer would function for three rounds. In this case, however, attacks would yet benefit from the fighter's 7th level THAC0 and strength. This might be one reason for granting the spell to the fighter.

The recipient must have an experience level in order to profit from the dweomer. Though a given spell may normally require a certain level to employ — for example, a caster need be 3rd level to obtain spiritual hammer — this is disregarded when imbuing a character with a spell. If the fighter in the above example were 1st level, he or she could still benefit from the incantation's transfer.

Reversed Spells

Recipients of the imbued spell resistance are precluded from casting the reverse of any spell they have been granted. This institutes a safeguard, as it's always possible that the recipient might use the opportunity to strike back at the caster in some foul manner. Besides the possible misuse, this also intercedes against any accidental calamity that might result.
