Green slime is an animated, aggregate slime mold that drifts through subterranean places. They spread themselves outwards very slowly, within one edge moving outwards while the reverse edge contracts. They can move vertically or horizontally over any surface, as they adhere to rock and squeeze into every opening. Because the organisms that make up the colony are too small for the eye to see, a massive green slime can literally move through the eye of a needle; this makes them a dangerous threat to warrens and labyrinthine lairs. Green slime feeds mostly upon vegetable material, though they are also able to consume raw ore and organic minerals such as coal.

Green slime are sensitive to vibrations and will move steadily towards sounds. When movement occurs beneath them, handful-sized clumps of the slime will "break away" to drop upon victims, where it will attach itself to living flesh (if a successful hit is made against armour class 10). These clumps will usually be recollected into the main body afterwards, but sometimes the separation grows and produces an independent slime.

Once attacked, living creatures will feel as though they have been doused in acid. The damage caused will be 1-2 biological units, or 1-2 points of damage per level of the victim. Once the hit is made, the slime will attach itself to the victim, burning through the victim's clothing (save vs. acid). To rid the victim of the slime, it must be scraped off with some edged object; if the victim's clothes are not devoured, they will most likely need to be ripped away to gain access to the attached slime. There is no roll needed to accomplish this, but immediately afterwards, the area of effect will need to be cauterized to be sure all the slime attached to the skin is killed. Otherwise, the slime will enter the bloodstream and kill the victim in 6-8 hours.

Any object used to scrape away the slime will be likewise infected, so it too must be disinfected with acid, normal flame or extermination or else be thrown away. The slime will eat metal (including magic weapons) or any organic material it encounters. This occurs slowly, but is inevitable if the object is not disinfected as described.

Extermination is insufficient to clean living flesh, nor will cure disease have any effect on green slime (as it is not a disease). Most spells are ineffective, though slime can be frozen or burned, either of which will kill it. Because the duration of fireball is so brief, it will have no effect on green slime.

Any victim that has been killed by green slime will, over a period of 2-5 days, be consumed by the slime, forming a new colony. Victims that have been killed by green slime cannot be raised or resurrected, as neither will rid the body of the slime itself.

Large underground areas are known to have been infested with green slime, making these areas utterly uninhabitable.
