Druid Spell Acquisition.jpg

Druidical spell acquisition explains how the druid character class acquires their collection of incantations and dweomers. Druidical magic operates by harnessing the essence of wild magic, channeling its power into spells that individuals have learned to create according to their level of experience. Once a spell is understood, it may be cast once per day — and then, once it's cast, it must be "relearned" through meditation. Druids do not carry spellbooks.

Druids do not carry spellbooks. Instead, they achieve a spiritual connection with the natural world, a profound link beyond the scope of the ordinary five senses. The druid, in a manner challenging to articulate, attains a supernatural awareness of the flow of energy, the vitality of living beings, and the elements of water and earth — extending even to the heat and magma beneath the world's crust. These potent forces are "tapped," or gathered, while the druid constructs the spell in his or her mind. As these forces exist everywhere, even outside the Prime Material, druids may regain their spells anywhere.

Meditation requires 15 minutes per day, per level of the spell. Like other Like other spellcasters, druids must maintain concentration when casting spells.

Spell Bonus

The total number of spells that a druid gains is adjusted by his or her wisdom, as indicated on the table shown. The list of spells is cumulative, so that while a character with a 15 wisdom gains a bonus 2nd level spell, he or she would also gain those bonus spells available to those with a wisdom of 13 and 14. For example, if Lauren the Druid had a wisdom of 16, she would gain two bonus 1st level spells and two bonus 2nd level spells.

However, spells of a given power aren't actually obtained by the character until reaching an experience level that allows that spell level to be cast. As shown on the Spell Acquisition table below, Lauren would have to reach the 2nd level of experience before she could obtain her bonus 2nd level spells.

Bonus spells are gained over and above those shown on the acquisition table. Thus, at 1st level, a druid normally gains two 1st level spells. As Lauren gains two bonus 1st level spells as well, she would enter the campaign setting with a total of four 1st level spells.
