Detect Life.jpg

Detect Life is a spell that reveals the existence of living beings within a designated area. It effectively differentiates between various life forms such as plants, animals and fungi. Among animals, the spell further distinguishes between amphibians and reptiles, mammals, birds, fish, insects, slime moulds and creatures with hard or soft bodies.

Detect Life
Range self
Duration 5 rounds per level
Area of Effect 10 ft. wide; 60 +10 ft.
per level path
Casting Time 1 round
Saving Throw none
Level cleric (2nd)

As the caster turns, life can be scanned for in every direction, requiring a full six rounds to scan in a complete circle. There's no need for the caster to concentrate on the spell.

The dweomer is able to reveal the presence of life beyond such obstacles as earth, wood or stone, or beneath a water's surface. Because the spell can detect most forms of life, the caster might use it to detect a shapeshifting creature or metamorph.

When used in conjunction with foraging, regardless of the range, by a caster who knows just when the spell should be cast, the amount of food gathered should be doubled.
