The cantrip produces various sounds that may be interpreted as a creature in pain. This may feel like a general groan, as a person dying in pain, or it may be more acute, as a figure wounded on a battlefield. While the cantrip cannot produce audible speech, it can make a sound that will give the impression of a name being called out, over and over — though this specific effect need not be employed by the caster.
The cantrip can be used to cause others to investigate the sound, which they will do if they fail a saving throw against magic. Otherwise, the unpleasant sound of the grown can be used to force animals of 1 to 2 intelligence to move 10 ft., or two combat hexes, from the point where the sound emanates after discharged.
