Locate Plants (spell).jpg

Locate plants is a spell that enables the caster to discover a particular genus or species of plant within the spell's designated range. Upon casting, every individual of the specified type becomes visible. When seeking a "genus," the spell does not differentiate between various species within that category.

Locate Plants
Range 60 ft. per level
Duration 6 rounds per level
Area of Effect self
Casting Time 1 round
Saving Throw none
Level druid (2nd)

Only one type of either a genus or a species can be detected per use of the spell. Once cast, the knowledge remains accessible for the spell's duration, allowing the caster to explore and gather materials within their capabilities. If the sought-after plants are blocked by any kind of solid obstruction that's at least 4 inches thick, the spell won't detect them.

The spell can identify fruits, nuts or roots, providing sustenance equivalent to what an ordinary forager would collect during half a day of searching within the same vegetation. A new area must be explored each day to yield fresh results of this kind. Naturally, the spell is tremendously useful in locating an antidote-based plant, or something from which another substance can be extracted.

Other uses include seeking specific weeds when gardening, with the caster identifying different weeds on progressive days. Very unusual plants could be used as waypoints in navigating through unfamiliar terrain, as certain vegetation only grows in precise conditions.
