Dampen drenches all things within the area of effect so that it's thoroughly damp through and through. Even objects protected by a container, if within the effect, is saturated by the cantrip. However, the magic isn't sufficient to make ink run or water-damage objects — though to avoid becoming mouldy, scrolls and other fragile objects must be exposed to the air within a hour.

Dampen
Range 10 ft.
Duration until evaporated
Area of Effect 1 cub. yard
Casting Time 2 action points
Saving Throw none
Level cantrip

Cast upon a fire, the cantrip will permeate every crack and space in the wood or coals, plus the surface on which the fire burns, extinguishing the flames within 2-5 rounds, with a 50% reduction each round. Because the surface is warm, the dampness will evaporate in 5-20 rounds; ordinarily, it will require 5-12 minutes for the dampness to evaporate.

As the dampness is rather cool, it will bring relief to those suffering from heat in balmy or hotter conditions. Likewise, in frosty or colder conditions, the cantrip will be cruel in effect, causing intense shivering and the hypothermia if the character fails to shun his or her clothing and fails to make a constitution check. While wet in such conditions, the recipient will suffer a -1 penalty to hit and a -2 penalty to damage.
