Unlock (cantrip)
Unlock enables the opening of any mechanical lock by causing the tumblers to shift within the device, until reaching the necessary positions for the lock to open. With most padlocks, this will cause the body to automatically fall, leaving the lock to hang from its shank. Doorlocks, on the other hand, will emit an audible click that will be recognizable to the caster — and to thieves as well.

The cantrip's reverse, lock, will automatically spin the pins in a doorlock. However, the caster has to physically hold the lock's body and shank together in order to cause a padlock to close — the cantrip will not levitate the body up into the shank. Keep in mind that padlocks usually weigh 2 to 3 lbs. and are a size that this process will require two hands.
Apart from this latter case, locks can be affected up to the cantrip's range of 10 ft.
