Breen Mayoralty.jpg

The Mayoralty of Breen is a halfling-occupied independent confederation situated upon a coastline of stunning fjords, mountains and coastal landscapes along the Norwegian Sea. The domain is divided into the shires of Moreland and the South Fjords, which together account for an area of 35.4 hexes and a population of 56,187.

Moreland, the larger and more populous shire, is dominated by the Trolltindene peaks, of which the most famous is the Troll Wall, which has Europe's tallest vertical rock face. Amidst the shire's dramatic terrain there are also lush flora and fertile fields, particularly along the Rauma river meandering through the Romsdalen valley.

South Fjords is found further to the south, following the Sognefjord, the longest fjord in Norway and one of the longest in the world. The rugged coastline creates dramatic landscapes of steep cliffs and crystal-clear waters. The valleys related to the fjord are verdant and fertile, where picturesque halfling farms and villages are found. Like Moreland, the climate is mild and coastal, allowing high yields of fruit in particular.

Culture

Amid the rugged mountains there were once many trolls, but these have been defeated and driven off in times past, as halflings and gnomes throughout the west lands of Norway worked to clear the valleys. Nonetheless, there are in the deepest mountain tombs still lesser creatures than the trolls of once-upon-a-time, who abide their time.

Throughout the mountains are independent stone giants who are friendly with the halflings. These also help protect the residents from many mythical creatures, including dragons and sea monsters. Fishing and boatbuilding provide a long maritime heritage for halflings, who fish the Greenland and North Seas on single-masted coasters. Dances and traditional folk music has remained unchanged for centuries, for there are very few travellers in these places.
