Augury enables the caster to ask a question of the character's gods, provided the answer can be expressed as a "yes" or a "no." Any question of this type can be asked, but imprecise questions may not take the questioner's agenda to heart, such as "Should we go left?" In such a case, the gods may give the answer "yes" because it serves the god's purposes, while in fact it does not serve the caster's purpose. While the gods will never actively carry ill-will against one of their own believers, this does not mean they will consider the caster's immediate needs of first importance.

Therefore, the caster should give some consideration to the question that was asked, with regards to its answer, before making any assumption.

The caster is permitted to ask one question per level. All questions must be written out by the player, and no answer can be given to any question until the player makes it clear that all the questions to be asked that day have been asked. After this, the answers will become known to the caster. No voice is heard, the caster simply knows.

Not all the questions may receive an answer. The caster has a 70% +1% chance per level of having any given question answered. Any question that does not succeed in this roll will receive no answer at all — and the caster should not be left in doubt that the question did not receive an answer. A successful roll will produce a clear "yes" or "no" — the spell is unable to provide any context whatsoever.

No question can be repeated; a series of questions that differ only in syntax, which are all intended to obtain the same answer, are to be treated as one question and rolled for only once.
