Dampen (cantrip).jpg

Dampen drenches an area with water, so that all is thoroughly damp. Even objects inside a container, if within the spell's effect, are saturated. This will make ordinary ink run, but magical scrolls and spellbooks are unaffected. However, it's possible that objects will be water-damaged and become mouldy if they're not exposed to the air within the hour.

Dampen
Range 10 ft.
Duration until evaporated
Area of Effect 1 cub. yard
Casting Time 2 action points
Saving Throw none
Level cantrip

Cast upon a normal fire, the cantrip permeates every crack and space in the wood or coals, plus the surface on which the fire burns. This extinguishes the flames within [2-5] rounds, with a 50% reduction in the fire each round. Lanterns and candles are dosed at once.

The caused dampness evaporates in [5-20] rounds, much faster than it would normal water (which requires up to 12 minutes). Nonetheless, the cool water brings relief to those suffering from heat in balmy or hotter conditions.

In frosty or colder conditions, the sudden wet causes intense shivering and hypothermia if the character fails to shun his or her clothing. If a constitution check fails, characters that are dampened will be -1 to hit and -2 to damage for a space of 4 rounds.
