Standard bearer is an amateur-status sage ability that empowers the bearer of a military standard to increase the attack die of other allied combatants by +1 to hit, so long as they're within 60 ft., or 12 combat hexes, of the bearer.
The standard also provides a +1 morale to any allies, who see the standard and take it as a sign that their side is holding firm in a fight. Armies often have dozens of standard bearers for this purpose.
Responsibilities
The bearer is free to wear armour, but during combat, their hands are both used in holding and waving the standard. Bearers must also shout their encouragement to others, so they cannot speak freely or take any action except to move forward. The same is true if the standard is held by a rider, who must use his or her hands to hold the standard and handle the horse.
If a standard bearer retreats or gives ground against an enemy, benefits offered by the standard to others are lost, until the standard bearer stops again and hold his or her ground.
