Unravel (cantrip).jpg

Unravel is a cantrip that dismantles tailoring, causing the stitching and weaving in clothing and baskets to come undone. Woven or knitted material simply unwinds, reducing garments and other items to loose threads and fabric. The cantrip doesn't destroy material outright but instead renders it structurally useless.

Ropes lose their integrity, becoming tangled strands. Flags may be torn from their poles, a disruption that could affect morale in military settings. Canvas tents can be shredded along their seams, creating openings for escape or infiltration. The bindings of thatched roofs can be undone, granting access from above. Stitched leather items, such as boots or gloves, may fall apart as their seams unravel, causing wearers to stumble and lose their footing, preventing action for one round.

Only one object can be affected per casting, making it unlikely to strip a person entirely of their clothing. However, careful application can cause embarrassment or discomfort. When targeted at the chausses or hauberk of an armoured combatant, the cantrip weakens the protective layer while also disrupting the wearer, reducing armour class by 2 points.

Limitations

The cantrip has no effect on solid leather, nor does it affect objects held together by glue, metal rivets or similar non-thread-based fastenings. Paper, including papyrus, remains intact, though the spell can unwind a scrollcase, making it easier to open.
