Metalsmithing (sage study).jpg

Metalsmithing is a sage study in the field of Metalwork, describing the process of smelting and working metal through the manipulation of heat and blacksmithing, making common everyday objects and tools in various metals. This grants a further understanding into the practice of metallurgy, or the making of alloys.

As it's intrinsic to the character's skill-set, the character has a complete understanding of the availability and value of material fuels, such as wood, peat, coal, charcoal and coke. These enable the founding of metals from their mineralogical sources, which in turn permits the redesign of the metals themselves, through the redesign of a metal itself through the mixing of metals to create astounding and stronger alloys, for the purpose of enhancing the material from which delicate arts, armour and weapons are made.

Sage Abilities

The sage abilities below are those acquired by a character through the study, according to status.

Amateur Status

  • Puddling: permits the extraction of pure, natural metals from their natural minerals, including the washing, concentration and separation of these metals.
  • Blacksmithing: enables the smelting, forging and shaping of ferric-metals, meaning those related directly to iron metal.

Authority Status

  • Non-ferric metals: enables the forging of natural non-ferric metals, including the practice of creating alloys from these. Otherwise corresponds to skills pertaining to a blacksmith.

Expert Status

Sage Status

  • Adamantium-Mithril: enables the alloying of these two magical metals, creating bars of extraordinary potential and characteristics for the making of powerful magical items.
