Hippocampi are a hybrid between a horse and a body somewhat similar to the seahorse, except that it is enlongated and very powerful. The front of the hippocampus consists of a horse's head and forelegs, which end in powerful leathery fins. They are covered with tough scales that have a

, the former including the front quarters of the horse's head and forelegs, the latter including its tail. It lives in both salt and fresh water. They are commonly a mount for numerous underwater humanoids and are particularly beloved of sea nymphs; a team of giant hippocampi are famous for pulling the chariot of the god Posiedon.

WORKING... The hippocampus is the most prized of marine steeds, for they are strong, swift, and intelligent. Their bodies are covered with fine scales in the fore parts, large scales elsewhere. They speak their own language and can learn another if properly trained. Tritons are often found in possession of these creatures.
