Delicate metalwork is a sage study in the field of Metalwork, providing skill at making and repairing jewellery, engraving, stonesetting, precision tools and other metal forms requiring a fine and meticulous mastery.

Although the character may initially begin creating fine works, worth 1½ to 2¼ times the value of an ordinary jeweller or engraver, he or she should prepare for a period of value lost as the skill is honed over time. This means making mistakes and having to buy additional materials; it means scratching or breaking gems and accepting this as an ongoing loss that won't be compensated for in sales until after a long time has passed.

The second consideration is that much time will be needed in developing the skills here. While intellectually the character may know how to perform the skillset, there's a developmental period to be considered in acquiring muscle-memory, encouraging confidence and patience, and ultimately getting to know the metals and their alloys with which the character works. The sage abilities listed below are not merely gotten overnight. Each requires a worktable, a private place to engage with one's craft, materials and, most of all, faith in oneself.

With the creation of other precision tools, such as an astrolabe, telescope, watch and measuring tools, the character has the opportunity to enhance their usefulness and personalise them as well. Characters should see each product as creating a part of their own soul, to achieve the mindset of the sage study.
