The capricorn, or sea goat, is a beast possessing the upper body of a goat, with front legs ending in paddled flippers, and the tail of a sea serpent. It prowls waters in the eastern Mediterranean and in the seas surrounding Arabia, presupposing that the creature dwelt in this part of the world prior to the great flood. They are rarely found in the west Mediterranean and never in the Atlantic Ocean. Some forms of the beast possesses horns that more closely resemble an ibex than a goat. They bear a beard under their chins, as thick as a colt's tail, with a strong, sturdy neck. They are about 18 ft. long.

Legend has it that Dionysius transformed himself into a capricorn in order to fight the beast Typhon, and that following Typhon's defeat the god created five-and-twenty score of these beasts as a gift to Zeus. The number of capricorn are unknown, but we may suppose that those that exist today are descended from those Dionysius created.

Behaviour

Capricorns are fierce and often threatening, as they are extraordinarily territorial. They are able to charge very rapidly upon the water's surface or beneath it, causing double damage when striking with it's horns. However, the capricorn is not generally malevolent. It may be approached and spoken to, as an animal, on the edge of its territory, and may be encouraged to provide knowledge of surrounding regions.

They are the dreaded enemies of crabmen, and if given the opportunity to go to war with these humanoids, they will do so.
