Hippocampi are a hybrid between a horse and an enormous eel-like fish, the former including the front quarters of the horse's head and forelegs, the latter including its tail. It lives in both salt and fresh water. They are commonly a mount for numerous underwater humanoids and are particularly beloved of sea nymphs; a team of giant hippocampi are famous for pulling the chariot of the god Posiedon.
