Creak is a cantrip that causes a creaking noise like the harsh scrape of metal meeting metal or wood against wood. It echoes the familiar sounds of a rusty door opening, a sign swaying and squeaking in the breeze, or wooden slats yielding to a subtle change in weight.

The sound has the potential to be a distraction for those who hear it, as the resonance is both piercing and grating. It will be assumed that something has moved nearby, without the sound of a footfall or breathing. Therefore, probably a threat, sneaking up on the listener. The practical result will be a -2 to the listener's initiative, if a saving throw isn't made.
The cantrip can also be used to permanently affect a hinge or a joint, such as that of a door, so that it will creak every time the joint moves. This creak can be cured with 8 ounces of lubricant.
