Distract is a cantrip that allows a caster to momentarily divert an opponent's attention. The dweomer creates a deep compulsion on the part of the recipient to turn and look towards a given point, if a saving throw against magic fails. The focus of the recipient is kept busy for a full combat round, about 12 seconds.

Distract
Range 10 ft.
Duration 1 round
Area of Effect 25 ft. circle
Casting Time 2 action points
Saving Throw negates
Level cantrip

Should the affected creature be attacked at this moment, the chance of surprise is increased to 1-3 in 6. In addition, if the defender is surprised or the attacker wins initiative, a +1 bonus to hit is granted. If the creature is in combat when the cantrip succeeds, then it's response should be treated as if the creature were stunned.

When attempting to sneak past guards or infiltrate an area, creating distractions can momentarily draw attention away, allowing the caster or their allies to move more quietly and unnoticed. Used creatively, the distraction could mislead an enemy or create a false trail, allowing a little more time to escape a pursuit.
