Hold Portal magically bars a door, gate or open portal so that others will be unwilling and therefore unable to pass through. In essence, the door is "locked," but the spell also saps the will of creatures to reach out and take hold of the door's handle, or pass under the door's lintel. Any form of portal can be affected.

This resistance likewise keeps creatures from bashing a door in, or using levers and other tools to force the door open. As the creature begins the attempt, suddenly it seems an unimportant action. The creature's thoughts are filled with doing some other thing and the held portal is forgotten.
The spell can be overcome by creatures who possess magic resistance, who have a percentage chance equal to their resistance of forcing their way through the door. Creatures with ESP ability and complete immunity to charm spells will be stymied by the locked aspect of held portals, but do possess the mental will to force such doors physically. The spells knock and dispel magic will quell a held portal's dweomer.
Open Portal
The reverse of the hold portal spell, this form denies any will or desire from creatures to close an open door, assuring that it can still be used for entrance or escape. The spell will force open a closed door — if it's not barred on the inside. Barred doors must be forced open first, whereupon the open portal spell will ensure it isn't closed again so long as the magic lasts.
