Knock (spell).jpg

Knock compels the opening of any door, gate or portal, whether it's stuck, mechanically locked or held, including doors that are barred from the inside. The spell cannot, however, open a wizard locked door.

Knock
Range 30 ft.
Duration 1 hour
Area of Effect 1 portal per level
Casting Time 1 round
Saving Throw none
Level mage (2nd)

If discharged over an area 10 ft. square, the spell forces open existing concealed or secret doors within that space, even if these cannot be seen. Once the spell is made active, the caster may continue to open portals for an hour, or until the caster reaches the number limit according to his or her level.

The spell cannot force open a space that wasn't structurally designed to open; thus, the caster cannot fabricate a portal through a wall. If a blockage of some kind exists, such as a collapsed ceiling, that also cannot be overcome by the spell.

However, knock is able to open the portal despite traps (though the opening will set these off) or against a weight of water or other liquid that's piled up behind the door (and therefore causing a deluge).
