Upon creating the double, the illusionist invests it with the ability to cast two of the caster’s repertoire of 1st level spells. Once this is done, the original caster can no longer cast those spells … but the double shall be able to do so at will.
The spells having been invested in the double, the original caster must study to regain those spell just as if he or she had cast them, regardless of whether the double was able to do so.
The double has the appearance and lack of corporeal substantiality of a fully manifested spectre. Once created, the double may move about freely, and may not be struck with normal or even silver weapons (magical attacks and magical weapons used against the double will do damage). The double will have as many hit points as the caster, but upon being reduced to zero will be dispelled.
The double may move up to 60 feet from the caster. The double will be able to discharge one of its spells in any given round, without need to first cast it—however, the double will not be able to move at all that round. Once the spell is discharged, the double will cease to possess that spell.
The power of the spell will be half that of the original caster (fractions ignored)—so that if the caster were 7th level, the double would throw the spell as though it were 3rd level. The double cannot ‘touch’ an individual to bestow a spell that needs to be cast in this manner.
The illusionist, after creating the double, may take whatever action he or she desires—including casting other spells, taking part in combat, binding wounds and so on. There is no need to control the double, as it will do precisely what the illusionist would do if in that situation. Thus, the double IS, in fact, the illusionist.
The double may view or investigate things out of the illusionist’s line of sight, but this knowledge is not intuitively passed from the double to the illusionist … the double must return and explain what was seen or heard. The chances of the double being discovered are precisely that of the illusionist being discovered—for all such matters, the double is considered equal to the caster.
The double may continue to exist after casting both spells, until the spectral double spell’s duration is past. If the spells possessed by the double were not cast, the spells are still considered to be lost to the caster for that day.
