Find Object (spell).jpg

Locate object reveals the exact location of any known object within the spell range, though it may be hidden in a closed container, behind a secret door, buried beneath the ground or otherwise obscured from sight. This may also allow the caster to recover an object that has been misplaced, or which has been stolen by a thief who is still nearabouts.

Locate Object
Range self
Duration 1 round per level
Area of Effect 120 ft. + 10 ft. per level
Casting Time 2 rounds
Saving Throw none; see text
Level cleric (3rd); mage (2nd)

With regards to common objects, such as gold coins, pottery mugs, apparel, furniture, tools, weapons and the like, the spell with reveal up to dozen of the nearest of these in any location where it's cast. Potentially, in locating a dozen gold coins in a specific spot, it may be revealed that these are a part of a horde hidden in a cache beneath the caster's feet.

Rare objects, however, must be familiar to the player in some way — through having heard of the object, or having gotten a description of the object before it's sought. In all cases, the spell will reveal only one kind of object, regardless of what's sought.
