If examined with detect magic, the aura emitted by the spell reveals it to be "strong," without revealing the magic's source. However, an identify spell correctly divulges the truth.
Though the magic gives no bonuses to saving throws for the object, if Nystul's magic aura is cast on a weapon, it becomes a "magic weapon" with regards to creatures that can only be hit by magic — though the spell gives no bonuses to hit or damage.
