'''Freeze''' will cause water to become ice.  The resultant ice will be 108.6% of the original water's volume, so that any container except stone that is holding the water will be broken and split as the transformation occurs.  The spell can be used as a bridge to cross a water surface, or to freeze a door solid if it is drenched in water first.  Water thrown over a flat surface can be frozen and thus, again, made slippery.  The duration of the ice will depend on the animate temperature.

Contents

The spell allows the caster to dictate the shape of the affected ice or snow, provided the total volume remains within the spell's limits. It can thin ice on lakes or ponds, melt the surface of an icy sheet to create a slick hazard, or carve footholds into an ice wall for a climber. However, areas beyond the spell's range remain unaffected.

When cast upon creatures attuned to cold, such as white dragons, ice toads, winter wolves or remorhaz, the spell inflicts 2 hit points of damage per level of the caster. A saving throw reduces this damage by half. The spell has no effect on undead.

Reverse

The reverse of the spell, freeze, transforms water into ice. The newly formed ice expands to 108.6% of the original water volume, causing any non-stone container to rupture as the transformation takes place. The spell may be used to create an ice bridge over water, to freeze a door shut after dousing it with water, or to render a surface slippery by freezing water poured over it. The ice's duration depends on the ambient temperature.
