Levitate (spell).jpg

Levitate is a spell that allows the caster to manipulate a single living being or object weighing up to 100 lbs. per caster level. This manipulation occurs exclusively in a vertical direction, either upwards or downwards. In the case of unwilling creatures, they have the opportunity to make a saving throw against magic if they resist being levitated.

Levitation
Range touch
Duration 10 rounds per level
Area of Effect 1 creature or object
Casting Time 1 round
Saving Throw negates
Level mage (2nd)

The spell restricts movement to a maximum of 20 feet per round, but any slower speed is equally feasible. It's important to note that movement cannot occur in both an upward and downward direction within a single round. Additionally, the spell doesn't allow for the levitation of multiple objects or creatures simultaneously.

Levitation doesn't allow horizontal movement — however, if a recipient can propel itself sideways by some other means, such as along a balustrade or pushing against a nearby wall, this is acceptable. If a rope is thrown to the recipient, he or she can be pulled along. Forte, gust of wind or push, as well as other external forces, can also cause the affected object or recipient to move.

Objects within reach from the ground can be nudged along; their mass may dictate the effort required to set them in motion or bring them to a stop once they've gained momentum.

Stopping & Starting

To initiate or halt movement, the caster must expend 1 action point. The spell can be terminated without any movement cost, enabling creatures to fall and suffer damage.
