Hold Portal (spell).jpg

Hold Portal is a spell that magically bars a door, gate or any open portal, preventing others from willingly attempting to pass through. The effect is more than just a magical lock; it suppresses the will of creatures, making them reluctant to grasp the handle, step across the threshold, or otherwise interact with the portal. Any form of doorway or passage can be affected.

This reluctance also applies to attempts to break down the door or use tools to force it open. As soon as a creature begins such an action, the urgency fades from their mind, replaced by an inexplicable distraction. The held portal is soon forgotten as attention shifts elsewhere.

Creatures with magic resistance have a percentage chance, equal to their resistance, to push past the enchantment and force the door open. Those with ESP ability and full immunity to charm spells remain subject to the physical barrier of a locked portal but retain the will to attempt to open it through force. The spells knock and dispel magic will negate a held portal's dweomer.

Open Portal

The reverse of hold portal, this spell suppresses any inclination to close an open door, ensuring that it remains available for passage. If cast upon a closed but unbarred door, it will compel it to swing open. However, if a door is physically barred from the inside, it must first be forced open before the spell can take effect, preventing it from being closed again for the duration of the enchantment.
