Telekinesis (spell)
Telekinesis is a spell that enables the caster to move objects through the force of will, shifting, lifting or lowering them in any direction chosen. The caster need only concentrate during the spell's duration when something is actually being moved; otherwise, the caster may act normally and even cast other spells.

The spell has been rewritten so as to remove it's effectiveness as a weapon. Objects can be moved at a speed up to 20 ft. per round, but no faster; once moved, these objects possess no residual momentum, but will stop where they are until concentration is applied again to move them. Up to one object may be moved per round. Telekinesis can be used to raise an opponent into the air, but the individual will stay there until the spell actually ends, rather than instantly feeling the pull of gravity when the caster ceases their movement.
This still allows for several persons to be lifted over the course of the spell, with damage accruing to all of them when the magic is dispelled; but it denies the ability to repeatedly slam one enemy over and over against the ground. Once caught in the air, individuals can use whatever means are available to try to regain the ground; a rope and grapple, for example. They might levitate themselves down, or become the recipient of feather fall, or try to soften the surface below them; others, too, could grab or snag them in some manner, bringing them back to the ground before the fatal drop occurs with the spell's end. Unless the caster is actively concentrating upon an individual to keep them in place, no resistance against acting under their own power will be felt.
Strength of Force
Unless the caster is actively concentrating upon an individual to keep them in place, no resistance against acting under their own power will be felt. The ability of others to resist the caster's will — that is, if the affected individual is trying to pull themselves by a rope while the caster struggles with telekinesis to force them to remain where they are — is a comparison between the affected individual's strength vs. the caster's intelligence. Whichever is higher, regardless of the amount by which it is higher, wins the conflict; if both are the same number, the struggle is a deadlock.
Thus, a caster with a higher intelligence could wrest an individual from their grip upon a door handle or some other like grip upon the ground and raise them in the air, while a stronger individual could pull themselves back to the ground against the caster's will. Each additional person aiding the affected person can lend their strength, adding +1 per four additional points of strength applied. However, the caster can always choose to target a helper, who is not themselves being helped, to remove them up and away from the contest, and then move onto the original target.
Weight Limitations

Level | Wt. Limit (lbs.) |
---|---|---|---|
1st | 30 | 8th | 890 |
2nd | 50 | 9th | 1,440 |
3rd | 80 | 10th | 2,330 |

5th | 210 | 12th | 6,100 |
6th | 340 | 13th | 9,870 |

To balance the spell's effectiveness, weight limitations and the spell's duration have been expanded to stress the utility of telekinesis. The table shown gives the weight allowance for the spell at progressive levels, with lower levels shown representing how well the spell would work if used as a scroll by a lower level. As telekinesis is a 5th level spell, when acquired at 9th level, the weight allowance is already considerable, with it fast rising in subsequent levels.
If multiple persons act collaboratively, entangling each other by the use of straps, belts, ropes or nets, then a group can be lifted all at once, within the spell's limitation, thus enabling the caster to lift a whole party up to the top of a cliff or structure together. If a vehicle or a structure is lifted, such as a cart, wagon, boat, scaffolding or whatever, then all those who "hang on" or are naturally contained in the lifted object can be carried along, with their weight accounted for by the spell's limitation.
The weight limit of each level beyond those shown by the chart can be calculated by adding the two previous weight limits from the two previous levels. Thus a 15th level caster would be able to move 9,870 + 15,970 = 25,840 lbs.
