Predict Meteor Events is an authority-status sage ability in the studies of Divination and Natural Astronomy, granting the adept the ability to precisely anticipate meteor showers — a celestial phenomenon where Earth traverses a path through a cosmic dust stream. This proficiency not only imparts insights into the timing of these meteor showers but also allows for the estimation of their intensity.

Intensity, in this context, quantifies the quantity of shooting stars visible within the span of an hour, along with the notable presence of stars tracing remarkable arcs across the heavens. The categorization of a particular meteor shower falls into one of four classifications, determined through the roll of two six-sided dice (2d6): showy (2-9), spirited (10), profound (11), or fiery (12).

Occurrence

Generally, a meteor shower graces the night sky once a month. However, in the months of February, March, April, May, June, July, and September, the practitioner of this celestial art must roll a thirty-sided die (d30) to predestine the exact date of the upcoming meteor shower, a prediction that only a skilled individual can make.

In the remaining five months of the calendar, these being the ones best renowned for specific meteor showers, the actual event might manifest in the three days surrounding the dates shown on the table (night before, night of or night after, randomly). The intensity of each meteor shower is modified by the bonus numbers shown after each named meteor shower on the table, as well as the direction from which the shower emanates.

Showers may be predicted up to six weeks in advance, with the information about the following month becoming available to the character on the 15th of each month.

Effects

During the night of a meteor shower, provided the sky remains clear, characters performing rituals in an outdoor setting experience a notable increase in their magical abilities — if they possess this sage ability. The effects are as follows:

Showy showers elevate a caster's experience level by 1 with respect to healing spells they possess.
Spirited showers like showy showers, but affecting any of the caster's existing spells.
Profound showers are like spirited showers, except the benefit is 2 levels instead of 1.
Fiery showers are like profound showers, except that the character can choose two temporary spells from whatever lists the increased 2 experience levels would normally allow.
