Quaal's Anchor
Quaal's Anchor is one of multiple pennyweight tokens that occur in various forms to suit a special need. The anchor appears to be a small bauble appearing to be made of silver, weighing but one twentieth of an ounce; this object can be attached to a chain and hung about the owner's neck. Upon willing it to change, which takes but a single action point, the token can expand to a weight between 20 and 400 lbs., large enough to anchor any vessel from a ship's boat to as large as a caravel or small Carrack.
If desired, an attached jewellery chain may also be transformed into a chain of 1-inch links, up to 200 ft. in length. This chain, should it be transformed, must attach to the anchor. The token is made so that, from the bow or stern of a vessel, it can be transformed into an anchor that will moor the ship, with the chain automatically bolts to an attached pad-eye hook. When the owner wishes it, the anchor and chain can be rapidly restored to their tiny, convenient size.
Dimensions
As the anchor transforms, it moves safely outwards from its owner, expanding to a length and width of 31 in. by 22, with a thickness of 15 in. It cannot be made to fall upon an enemy or cause damage in a lateral direction, but it can be dropped from above onto an enemy below. In the latter case, the owner needs to hit armour class 10, with a penalty of -1 to hit for every 10 ft. distance above the target. A hit causes 5-30 damage to creatures, whether or not the chain is also transformed.
Potentially, the anchor can do considerable destruction to structures, especially if dropped accurately from a great height. In such cases, misses must be calculated as potentially destroying an object surrounding that which was aimed at.
Use
The anchor's size can be adjusted but three times a day.
