Range | 30 ft. |
Duration | permanent |
Area of Effect | 1 creature |
Casting Time | 3 rounds |
Saving Throw | none; see below |
Level | cleric (5th) |
Restores life to dead creatures.
The creature raised must have hit dice (discounting levels) that are less than that of the cleric. A 9th level cleric, for instance, could not raise a frost giant, but a 10th level cleric could. Apart from this restriction, there are no creature forms for which the spell will not function.
The spell is also limited in that the dead creature cannot have been dead for longer than 1 sunset per level of the cleric. The spell will only restore those parts of the creature which are present when the spell is cast. The spell will not restore limbs or parts that are not present.
The spell will dispel the mundane effects of disease, poison or other physical effects, but will not rid the raised person of a curse or other magical dweomer.
The raised person will be weak and helpless following the spell, requiring one full day of bed rest for each day or part thereof the creature has been dead.
The reverse of the spell, slay living, will cause the individual selected to suffer 15-30 points of damage (12 +3d6). There is no saving throw, and the spell is effective to its full range (30’).
The spell has no effect upon undead.
Note that a body cannot be raised and resurrected (counted together) more times than the total of their present Constitution.
