Woodland foraging is an amateur-status sage ability in the study of Forester, similar to general foraging but more effective in temperate and subpolar forest ranges. The ability allows the search for naturally occurring food, including mosses and lichens, berries, wild grasses, herbs, nuts, acorns and fruits. The amount found is far more than an unskilled person might glean while looking over the same tract of land.

The time spent foraging equals 10 hours, though characters may forage for only 1-hour periods, in which case the found food is divided by the 10-hour standard. For example, Makran decides to forage for three hours; he rolls the total amount that would have occurred had he foraged for 10 hours, and recieves 3/10ths of that amount.

Similar to , this provides the character with an ability to locate edible animal and vegetable matter in a forest environment. With regards to edible subterranean flora and fauna that is raised by underground intelligent species, the ability also gives knowledge of what domesticated foods can be eaten safely and by which races.
In a period of 1 to 10 hours of searching outdoors, a skilled forager will be able to find 1-6 lbs. of food daily in a tundra or boreal forest, or 2-12 lbs. in a deciduous or wet forest. There is a only a 1 in 4 chance of the character finding 1-4 lbs. of food in a thorn forest, in such cases, the attempt to find food will produce nothing at all.
The length of time spent searching is "1 to 10 hours," unlike with ordinary foraging, because all the available food may well be found with less than a full day's work.
