Locate self is an amateur-status sage ability in the study of Geography, providing an innate and automatic ability to locate oneself within any province of the game world in which the character has dwelt for a period of at least one month. This presumes the character has asked about, spoken with natives and has spent several hours producing self-drawn maps that have been compared with the memory of others in the locality. This knowledge has been added to the character's earlier readings about the province, before he or she even arrived.

Contents

As the character immerses themselves in the terrain, a mental map gradually forms which is an accurate representation of the landforms all around. Therefore, the character effortlessly maintains an unwavering sense of their own location, eliminating the possibility of becoming lost.

Finally, the character may draw maps for other persons, though the benefit of this depends on their ability to comprehend and read maps — though this requires only 1 point in the study of geography.

Limitations

The ability only applies to areas within which the character has had time to orient his or herself. Additionally, the benefit in no way applies to the subterranean realm, nor to any place not of Earth, for that would be outside the character's study.

Nor does the ability grant any of the benefits of pathfinding, since the character only understands the region in a logistical sense, and not with respect to the living, dynamic aspects of the area.
