Light (spell).jpg

Light is a spell that creates a bright illumination, filling the area of effect with daylight-level brightness. This artificial light does not alter how things appear outside its radius; anything beyond remains subject to natural lighting conditions. Shadows cast beyond the spell's boundary remain unaffected and objects outside the light cannot be seen more clearly due to its presence. Mirrors positioned outside the area of effect will not reflect the magical light, reinforcing its limited influence.

Light
Range cleric (120 ft.); illusionist
(30 ft. per level)
Duration 1 hour per level
Area of Effect 20 ft. radius globe
Casting Time 1 round
Saving Throw none
Level cleric (1st), illusionist (1st),
mage (1st)

The spell is cast upon a fixed point or specific location, from which the light radiates outward. If the chosen point is attached to a mobile object, such as a staff, shield or lantern, the light can be carried and transported.

However, if cast on an immovable object or empty space, the light remains fixed to that location. The brightness is strong enough to eliminate combat penalties from low-light conditions, allowing precise actions such as reading, writing or intricate work to be performed without difficulty.

This spell has no reverse version and cannot be used to produce darkness. It is purely a source of illumination, offering no control over shadows beyond its area of effect. However, it can be used to dispel both darkness and darkness, 15 ft. radius, negating their effects and restoring normal visibility within their areas. However, Darkness, 15 ft. Radius possesses a stronger magical presence and is therefore allowed a saving throw to resist being dispelled.
