Aggressive when attacked, these volatile creatures gain a +2 bonus for all attacks, increasing their natural THAC0 to 16. Though aggressive, the warthog prefers to run from a fight if it can, as its predators are usually fast-moving creatures such as leopards and cheetahs. Warthogs can run at a cost of 1/8th action points (AP) per hex for a distance of 200 yards.

The warthog has two sets of tusks, lower and upper set. The lower pair becomes razor sharp, as the warthog reaches maturity, from rubbing against the upper pair as the mouth is opened and closed. These tusks can reach a length of 10 in. long and are valuable as a low-grade ivory.

When mating, male warthogs compete for sows at the beginning of the wet season. Once a mate is chosen, the male will remain with her through the gestation period, up to six months; during half the year, then, at least two warthogs will be found together. During the remaining year, the sounder will consist of a close group, with 3–4 females surrounded by 4–16 children. A separate male group consists of 2–8 males, found within a quarter mile of the female group.
