Recognize Heavens (sage ability).jpg

Recognize Heavens is an amateur-status sage ability that allows the character to observe and study the celestial heavens — correctly identifying individual stars, constellations, nebula, planets, asteroids, meteors and comets. The character possesses a complete understanding of the movements of the sun and moon. He or she is trained to observe with both the naked eye and with a telescope.

The character has full knowledge of how to use a sextant, to determine the character's latitude and longitude anywhere on the earth. In astrology, this gives a complete accurate knowledge of the position of which objects are in which house, when determining a character's chart.

Timekeeping

The ability enables the character to keep a nearly accurate accounting of time, both through the day and night, whenever the sun or the stars are visible, to within 15 minutes. Moreover, the character is able to recognize the day of the year, being able to predict the arrival of meteor showers, climatic events such as the coming of the monsoon season or the correct time to plant, as well as accurately predict the moon's phase on any given night.

As this information is critical in backward, uncivilised areas, displaying a knowledge of the stars and describing their movements may convince a local shaman to acknowledge the character and his or her party, during an encounter with natives.
