Rope Trick
Range touch
Duration 10 rounds per level
Area of Effect 5 ft. rope per level; see text
Casting Time 1 round
Saving Throw none
Level bard (2nd); illusionist (3rd); mage (2nd)

Enchants a touched piece of rope so that one end can be made to rise into the air, until the maximum length is hanging perpendicularly, as if affixed at the upper end. This rope will support weight up to three times that of the caster, so long as the caster remains within 30’ of the rope.

The top of the rope allows escape into an extra-dimensional space that will accommodate up to 1000 lbs. (creature and equipment weight included) for the duration of the spell. The rope may be withdrawn during this time, so that no evidence is left behind.

Persons in the extra-dimensional space must climb down during the last few rounds of the spell, or else they will fall from the height to which they chose to climb (determined by the caster) in order to reach the space.

Note that the spell may also be used to reach places within normal space (if they do not climb to the extra-dimensional shelf that is only evident upon climbing to the very top of the rope.

The spell does not impart rope-climbing ability to those who do not have it.
