Healing salve is a semi-magical healing substance that restores 1-4 hit points of damage and closes wounds. The salve has the appearance of a soft, liquid-like powder with a mint-green colour. It is tasteless and weighs approximately 2 oz. The salve may be consumed or applied directly to the body, with the latter being most effective when applied to broken skin. Upon application, the effect is immediate, restoring lost hit points and halting any active bleeding.

Administering the salve to a conscious, willing patient requires 3 action points (AP). If the patient is unconscious or lacks visible wounds, applying the salve involves introducing a portion into the patient’s mouth and rubbing the remainder onto their throat or upper chest. This process takes 6 AP and may be completed over multiple rounds.

Healing salves can be crafted by characters who possess the sage ability make salve, a skill tied to the studies of alchemy and medicine.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 drop olive oil
  • 1 oz. powdered mintleaf
  • 1 oz. crushed nettle root
  • 1 oz. myrrh
  • 2 oz. aloe
  • 1 vial holy water (4 fl.oz.)
  • 1 carat ground opal

Preparation. Begin grinding powdered mintleaf and crushed nettle root together in a mortar until the mixture becomes fine and even; be extremely careful not to overgrind and create a paste. Add olive oil and gently heat the mixture in a crucible over a low flame until the necessary earthy brown tone, being careful not to let it darken towards a charred, undesirable undertone. Add holy water and reduce, stirring carefully with a silver or bone rod, allowing the divine energy to permeate evenly through the blend.

Crush the opal using an iron press, until firmly granular. Roll into this the myrrh and aloe until a ball forms, about the size of a grape. Steadily, patiently, drip the mint-nettle leaf mixture into the ball, which should begin to lightly smoke. Once this occurs, place the ball inside an enclosed box to remove any light; wait 48 hours. When opened, a salve should have spread throughout the bottom of the container; spread over parchment or cloth so that it may be applied to a wound or consumed from the surface.
