Healing potions are magical restorative liquors that repair bodily injury and restore lost strength. A potion must be consumed in its entirety during a single round, after which the drinker regains 3–36 hit points of damage, all of which accrues to a single individual. Partial consumption has no effect. In colour it tends to be milky white, with a recognisably pleasant odour, but many false potions deliberately strive to reproduce these characteristics, so someone with expertise is needed to determine a false substance from the real thing.

An important ingredient for the manufacture of the potion is the calcium stones that form within the giant crayfish's internal sac, prior to moulting; this material is also used by the creature to regenerate lost limbs — so that monasteries often breed these creatures, though dangerous, in flooded caves or cisterns beneath established monasteries. Higher production of this specific form of calcium can be encouraged through the deliberate maiming of the creatures.
