I find it confusing that the range is 'self', but the AoE lists a maximum distance between caster and target. Surely that reduces to "Range: [such and such distance]"? Or is the intent to specify not only how far away the target can be when spell is discharged, but also how far away target can get w/ horizontal movement (gust of wind, pulled by rope, etc.) without breaking the spell?

"Self" means the area of effect originates with the caster. "Touch" or a distance given means the area of effect originates with the recipient, or the point in space where the spell is cast. In this case, the area of effect is mixed up. I'll fix it.
